Curtain Call
Dive into The Shade Store with Nate Berkus, Victoria Hagen, and Martyn Lawrence Bullard, for interior design collections with serious star cred. Here, we uncover the fabrics, patterns and palettes.
Nate Berkus
An iconic name in American interior design, Nate Berkus elevates spaces with rich, neutral palettes that are anything but basic. One of The Shade Store’s longest design partners, Berkus infuses his effortless sophisticated American style with a palette of textural solids and subtle patterns sourced from runways and travels.
Naturally, all the offerings feel very editorial. His work has been featured in numerous national magazines, and he is included in lists of the world’s top interior designers.
“With textiles rooted in fashion, from a luxe bouclé to a menswear-inspired tweed with classic linen and stripes in between, the line is a perfect blend of versatile and chic,” says Berkus.
Victoria Hagan
It all begins with the windows and framing the view,” says Victoria Hagan, the celebrated interior designer known for restrained American luxury. “It’s one of the first decisions I make when designing a room.”
Since founding her eponymous firm over 25 years ago, Hagan is best known for integrating architecture and interior design. Case in point: The signature East-West stripe injects horizon lines to a space, which is very graphic
and fresh.
With offices in New York City and Palm Beach, FL, she’s been named by design community authorities to many of their A-lists. Patterns evoke natural elements, from cool sky blues and cloudy greys to soft, suble floral designs Petal is a soft printed velvet, and the subtleness of the pattern is elusive as light hits it. Meanwhile, Vanda has an exotic orchid pattern with a sheen that lusciously frames a view.
“This collection is all about the luxury of softness and the subtlety of pattern and how that can create a sophisticated, yet serene environment.”
Martyn Lawrence Bullard
There is only one designer who can make a room ooze with newera Hollywood glamour, and it’s the award-winning British-born Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Equal parts exotic and sophisticated, the LA-designer’s far-flung collection takes its cues from the streets of Tangier, the Paris runways, and of course, culturally rich LA, where he lives in a romantic Hollywood Hills retreat and designs for Hollywood elite.
His oeuvre is an eclectic array of opulent, contemporary designs merging Eastern and Western cultures in elegant detail and color. The Shade Store collaboration is primed for coffee-table interiors. The bold Nomad Stripes are derived from African shields, while striking florals in a fresh color palette ignite romance. Most wanted: The leafy Palmier print resembles the decadent book cover of “Star Style.”
“This culturally rich city is full of excitement, movie stars, and old-school glamour, which colors my work,” says Bullard, whose best-selling “Star Style” offers a glimpse into his celeb-drenched interiors.
“Window treatments are the jewelry of a room,” he says. “They frame the views and become the conversation point.”
