Sleek Peek
Rubin & Chapelle brings architectural cred and a distinct NYC aesthetic to its exclusive new OC boutique.
Peer through the looking glass of Rubin & Chapelle, and the world is decidedly urban. Glimpses through the gray glass at its new Fashion Island storefront reveal exclusive, intimate areas dedicated to evening wear and fittings, embodying the refined exclusivity that defines the fashion brand.
No surprise that Rubin & Chapelle would enlist under-the-radar NYC architects to erect a stealthy retail space for its exclusive OC boutique. Here, UE Architecture created a raw and refined aesthetic with a mix of troweled cement, black oak, steel, and signature gray glass.
“The blend of stoic urban style with the relaxed luxury of Southern California feels seamless, and we’re eager to open our doors in such a welcoming environment,” says Sonja Rubin, Rubin & Chapelle co-founder and designer.
The East Coast import has garnered a loyal following for its sustainable, small-batch approach to high fashion. Founded in 1997 by Rubin and Kip Chapelle, the brand has a timeless aesthetic and impeccable craftsmanship. Its signature bias-cut dresses, tailored suits, and luxurious knitwear have graced the pages of some of the most respected national fashion magazines. They regularly adorn celebrities and a VIP clientele seeking understated elegance.
Sustainability and craftsmanship are part of its old-world approach to new-era style. All of their garments and accessories are produced in the United States, ensuring fair labor practices and minimizing their environmental footprint. The brand prioritizes the use of high-quality, ethically sourced materials, including organic and cruelty-free silks.
The coveted line of leather totes, for example, achieve a singular color palette because of a proprietary vegetable-dye process. Vegetable dyes are biodegradable and generally have a lower environmental impact compared to synthetic dyes. The complex colors that can vary slightly from batch to batch, underscore the artisan component. Rubin & Chapelle design philosophy is also rooted in minimalism, emphasizing clean lines, architectural silhouettes, and luxurious fabrics. Garments are designed as a counterpoint to fleeting trends, offering enduring style and exceptional quality.
